Audrey's Biography

As this week my students wrote a composition about a biography of a famous or celebrity they know, I am going to do my own one; I choose one of my favourite actresses, the unforgettable Audrey Hepburn. They had to write an essay including born, education, life and work and personal opinion. So I will make a summary of the life and work of this wonderful woman I admire and like in a way I cannot explain easily...

Audrey Hepburn was born in Brussels, Belgium, on May 4, 1929. Hepburn went to school in England. She continued to achieve her dance career. Although Hepburn had no experience at first, she improved fast, and reviews praised her. She was given a role in Roman Holiday. Costarring Gregory Peck, the film tells the tale of a princess who is shown around Rome, Italy, by a reporter who falls in love with her. Hepburn got an Academy Award for best actress at the age of twenty-four.
Billy Wilder signed her up in 1954 for his new film, Sabrina. Hepburn costarred with William Holden and Humprey Bogart, who was her love in the film. Hepburn shared the screen with all of the top leading men of her time: Cary Grant, Fred Astaire, Rex Harrison, Mel Ferrer, whom she married in 1954 and Sean Connery. In 1959 she made her first serious film, The Nun's Story.
After 1967, Hepburn stopped working. She had a child at age forty during her thirteen-year marriage to Italian physician Andrea Dotti. Hepburn chose to spend her time with her family and work for the international children's relief organization UNICEF. The last film, Always, featured her in a role as an angel. Hepburn lived in Switzerland with Robert Wolders for the last twelve years of her life. Hepburn continued her work for UNICEF and was named the organization's goodwill ambassador (representative) in 1988. Hepburn worked in the field, nursing sick children and reporting the suffering she witnessed. She died on the 20th of January, 1993 in Switzerland. She is still present in our lives with her films and the diary memory of her fans.

I hope this essay is useful for all English learners or can be an easy way to know the life and work of this unique actress. Moreover, I strongly recommend the book Audrey in Rome, full of details and beautiful images of this loving woman.

  1. I didn't know that her real name was Audrey Kathleen Ruston. I don't understand very much about cinema, but she was glamorous indeed and a good actress: thus, she won an Oscar in 1953, and more prizes besides.

    Doc.
